What We’re About

We want to help university students to encounter Jesus Christ, begin a relationship characterised by deepening love for him, and then grow to love, support and equip those around them.

We believe that relationships based on real honesty and a hunger for God’s word are the foundations for both knowing him and becoming a disciple. We desire that everyone that comes into contact with the Navs becomes equipped to bless and strengthen others.

We meet together to study the Bible on Tuesday nights so that we can hear what God is saying to us through his word. But the Bible doesn’t present the Gospel as merely a discussion topic or a set of statements. It begins with the whole creation becoming alienated from God and ends in everything being made new in his son, Jesus Christ. Central to this is the transforming of people, and our lives and relationships. So we both study and grapple with what the Bible says, AND we seek to sow the word in our lives so that Jesus Christ blossoms in all we are and do. We therefore also spend time together getting to know one another, talking about our lives, eating, playing sport, watching films or whatever else life throws up.

Together we are seeking to understand how the Gospel of Jesus Christ touches, transforms and bears fruit in every aspect of our lives, so that God might be glorified in the lives of people really knowing and sharing him.

Real

Why keep things superficial? If we’re going to talk about life, let’s talk about real life in all its confusion and messiness. nottinghamNAVS is a place to get real and experience the kind of honesty that normally only comes after a few drinks.

Relevant

What does Christianity have to say to your work, your sex life, your mental health, or the things you do for fun?  More than you might think!  This ain’t no pie-in-the-sky-when-you-die Christianity, only the nitty gritty of life and living as a student in Nottingham in 2017.

Relational

Why not bring a friend?  Doing this stuff is much more fun with a crowd, so we always strive to make sure that nottinghamNAVS is mates-friendly.  No entry requirements: anyone can come and everyone is welcome, no matter their starting point.

Reproducible

What We Do

Food & Chat

We’ll spend autumn term’s Tuesday evenings partly in small groups, eating dinner together and discussing Stories Jesus Told.  We often meet in student houses surrounding campus in Lenton and Beeston (lifts are available). The aim of these evenings is to hang out together and build some quality friendships as we talk and experience why Jesus’ stories are so profoundly relevant two millennia after he first told them. It just might change your life.

1to1s

We’re specialists in mentoring individuals to help them reach their full potential. We can cover a range of topics that are of interest to you – faith, personal issues, mental health, leadership, money management, sex, work and rest.  Many of our students go on to obtain 1st class degrees.   If you’re interested in getting some deliberate, personal, one-on-one input (and learning how to do the same) then let us know.

Culture Club

At various times and places through the weeks of term we love to spontaneously get together and hang out around the high points of Nottingham culture.  Board games (and board game cafés).  Films.  Food.  Coffee.  Walks.  Gigs.  Special lectures.  Spending time getting to know one another is the fuel for everything else we do.  Keep an eye on Facebook and the Events page so you don’t miss out.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING…

Navs is a place where I am encouraged to be myself in all my messiness, and to welcome Jesus into the disaster which is my life. Each week I learn more of how His strength shines through my flaws. Bethan, Nottingham University

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING…

Navs is like those deep conversations you have after some beer… but without the beer. Although often there is beer.
