Rosalyn Boydell

'I love being part of the Navs because, at it's heart, it's just a bunch of down-to-earth people who believe God wants to use them in the lives of others.'

My role as part of the national leadership team involves a variety of things: people, communications and prayer.

More about my work

When I first became involved with Navs in the late 90s, as a student in Edinburgh, I had no idea that this movement would become such a big part of my life. I was drawn into a bible study group, and was struck by a few things

1) the sincerity of people's heart for God

2) the authenticity and vulnerability of people as they shared

3) the collective sense that Jesus was doing something in our midst that was worth sticking around for.

I learned from being involved in the Navs at such a formative age that the bible was a vibrant, alive and engaging text, hugely relevant for my everyday life. It still surprises me that I can read a verse in the morning, perhaps one I've read many times before, and the Holy Spirit uses it to show me the way towards hope, towards freedom, towards God, in the midst of whatever specific circumstances that day brings. It's incredible.

But what really drew me to the vision of the Navs was how relational it is. I experienced the deep encouragement of someone getting alongside me, being interested in my walk with Jesus, and wanting to see me grow. That first person didn't do anything remarkable with me, just a few cups of tea along the way, but looking back I can see that they helped me believe that God had purposes for my life.

Phil and I spent many years in student ministry, both in Edinburgh and in Stirling, and it's been one of the great joys of my life to see people, perhaps for the first time in their lives, say ' Me? Jesus loves me? even with xyz going on in my life?'. The transforming power of the gospel embedding itself in someone's life is just thrilling to see.

These past years, being involved at various leadership levels have been a real privilege. The days that we live in are strange and bewildering but the gospel is as relevant and necessary now as it ever has been. As leaders our role is to pray, and to mobilise a movement of people who are open to the possibility that God wants to use them in the lives of those around them.
